AI Engineer – Autonomous Pentesting Platform

About the role

Devoteam Cyber Trust, the cybersecurity unit of the Devoteam Group, is hiring an AI Engineer in Lisbon. You will develop and evolve an autonomous pentesting platform built on agentic systems, within the Offensive Engineering and Innovation team. The platform aims to automate large parts of the penetration testing lifecycle, using agents, LLMs and integrations with existing security tooling, following methodologies such as the OWASP Web Security Testing Guide.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve the architecture of autonomous pentesting agents
• Design controlled execution pipelines (tasking, tool usage, feedback loops)
• Improve mechanisms for planning, state management, tool orchestration, validation and control of agent execution
• Integrate and optimise LLM-based systems within agent workflows
• Define and validate tool-calling interfaces and integrations with pentesting tools
• Keep alignment with established methodologies such as OWASP WSTG
• Test and validate agent behaviour in real-world scenarios, and identify, analyse and mitigate failures and edge cases
• Contribute to internal standards, engineering practices and design patterns

Required profile

• Ability to design complex, non-deterministic systems
• Deep debugging capability and ability to validate system behaviour, not just code correctness
• Strong critical thinking, autonomy and ownership, and an experimental, outcome-driven mindset focused on control and reliability

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in Python
• Experience with APIs and distributed systems
• Practical experience with LLMs (usage, integration, limitations)
• Understanding of agent-based systems
• Differentiators: agent framework experience, application security background, security testing automation, exposure to multiple LLM models
