Legal Counsel – Employment Products

About the role

Oyster is seeking a self‑driven Legal Counsel to join its Employment Law Team and help shape the future of global distributed work. In this role you will advise internal teams and external stakeholders on employment law across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring the company’s Employer of Record model remains compliant and scalable.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain employment templates, policies and processes for many jurisdictions.
• Monitor global legislative developments and implement required changes to products and operations.
• Partner with Product, People and other cross‑functional teams to design compliant employment solutions.
• Provide advice on hiring, compensation, leave, performance management and terminations.
• Support strategic initiatives such as direct expansion and launch of new employment products.
• Develop employment guides, knowledge resources and compliance documentation.

Required profile

• Law degree (JD or equivalent) and admission to practice in at least one jurisdiction.
• 4+ years of experience practicing employment law, preferably with both law‑firm and in‑house exposure.
• Deep knowledge of multi‑jurisdictional employment matters and the Employer of Record model.
• Strong business acumen and ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear guidance.
• Excellent analytical, communication and research skills in a fast‑paced global environment.
