Privacy Counsel – GDPR & Data Protection (FinTech)

About the role

We are looking for a Privacy Counsel to provide GDPR and data‑protection expertise for our FinTech clients. You will act as a trusted adviser, ensuring compliance across European markets while supporting innovative projects.

Key responsibilities

• GDPR & local law advice – act as trusted adviser on GDPR and national data‑protection laws across European markets.
• Regulatory monitoring – track EU and national privacy law developments, EDPB guidelines, AI Act and related regimes, and translate impact into guidance.
• Legal opinions – provide clear written and verbal advice on complex privacy questions.
• Privacy governance – establish and maintain Records of Processing Activities (RoPA) and draft/maintain privacy policies, standards and notices.
• Conduct DPIAs and risk assessments, recommending mitigation measures.
• Embed privacy by design in new products, services and AI initiatives.
• Draft, review and negotiate Data Processing Agreements and other data‑sharing contracts.
• Advise on cross‑border data transfers, implement SCCs and conduct transfer impact assessments.
• Manage data subject requests and oversee breach response, including notifications to authorities.
• Design and deliver privacy training and promote a data‑protection culture.

Required profile

• Law degree; qualification/admission in an EU jurisdiction preferred.
• 4‑7 years of data protection/privacy experience in‑house or in a law firm/consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of GDPR and at least one national privacy law.
• Experience in financial services or other regulated environment is a plus.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, comfortable with senior management.
• Fluency in English; additional European language (French, Dutch, Italian or Portuguese) is a strong plus.
