Legal Counsel (Employment Products)

About the role

Oyster is seeking a self‑driven Employment Counsel to join its global Employment Law Team. You will advise internal teams and external stakeholders on employment law across multiple jurisdictions, shaping the future of distributed work and ensuring compliance for Oyster’s Employer of Record model.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain employment templates, policies, and processes across multiple jurisdictions.
• Monitor global legislative developments, assess impact on products, and drive required changes.
• Partner with Product and People teams to design compliant employment solutions that balance legal requirements with business goals.
• Advise on the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, compensation, leave, performance management, and terminations.
• Support strategic initiatives such as direct expansion, indirect‑to‑direct migrations, and launch of new employment products.

Required profile

• Law degree (JD or equivalent) and admission to practice in at least one jurisdiction.
• 4+ years of experience practicing employment law, preferably with both law‑firm and in‑house exposure.
• Deep expertise in multi‑jurisdictional employment matters and familiarity with the EOR model.
• Strong business acumen and ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear guidance for non‑legal stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and research skills, with a technology‑forward mindset.
