Software Development Engineer – Lab Automation & Test Systems

About the role

As a Software Development Engineer you will help digitalise engineering laboratories by creating software solutions that enable efficient testing, reliable data acquisition and smarter lab operations. You will work in a multidisciplinary, international environment supporting automation and advanced test systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain applications using LabVIEW, Python and VBA for automated test environments.
• Develop and optimise automated test sequences, measurement systems and data‑acquisition solutions.
• Integrate laboratory equipment, sensors and instrumentation into robust software architectures.
• Create communication interfaces using serial and network protocols (RS232, RS485, UART, TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, OPC UA).
• Support commissioning, validation, maintenance and continuous improvement of test systems.
• Analyse and troubleshoot software and system issues to ensure reliable laboratory operation.

Required profile

• University degree in Mechanical, Automation, Computer or Electrical Engineering or a comparable technical field.
• Experience developing software for laboratory, test or automation environments.
• Proven ability to work analytically, manage multiple technical topics and focus on quality and continuous improvement.

Required skills

• LabVIEW development.
• Programming in Python and VBA.
• Knowledge of data‑acquisition systems and measurement technologies.
• Familiarity with communication protocols such as RS232, RS485, UART, TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, OPC UA.
• Understanding of software lifecycle management, version control and documentation practices.
• Debugging, troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.
