Provision Master (M/F)

About the role

Mystic Cruises, an expedition ocean cruise line based in Porto, is looking for a Provision Master (male/female) to manage the ship's hotel stores and provisioning. The role covers ordering, inventory, issuing and the management of the Provision staff, in line with USPH standards.

Key responsibilities

• Submit order proposals for subsistence, bonded goods, consumables, uniforms, linen, entertainment supplies and other items for the Hotel Department, keeping storage capacity and ship safety in mind
• Oversee cleaning and maintenance of store rooms and provision areas, and the daily issuing of food, beverage and consumables
• Process invoices and purchase orders in MXP, prepare ship requisitions and in-port purchase orders, and organise loadings with other departments
• Receive, issue and spot-check hotel items, run a full bonded inventory each month and plan ahead for upcoming cruises
• Train, coach, counsel and delegate the Provision staff, monitor their work and vacation schedules and carry out performance appraisals
• Handle maintenance issues, track overtime and work registration forms, and ensure staff follow company policies
• Create orders within the freight budget, check invoices, control inventory, vacation schedules and expenditures against the consumable and M&R budgets, and calculate daily food cost
• Ensure safe handling of hazardous materials, proper use of PPE, safe lifting techniques and familiarity with emergency plans; take part in lifeboat drills
• Schedule meetings with the utility provision department, attend the Hotel Manager's meeting daily and keep in touch with the head office and department heads

Required profile

• College degree/diploma or hotel management school, or relevant apprenticeship in food service
• At least two years' experience in a hotel or on a cruise ship in a similar position
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Outgoing personality, positive attitude, calm under pressure, and strong leadership and organisational skills

Required skills

• Food and beverage product knowledge
• Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of MXP is beneficial
• Previous accounting or hotel stores experience is beneficial
