About the role
The Pharmacy Technician – PrEP Retention Specialist supports the Division of Pharmacy by ensuring participants have continuous access to pre‑exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) through a navigation model integrated with pharmacy services. Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, the role proactively identifies and resolves barriers related to insurance, medication access, adherence, and refill continuity, helping participants initiate and maintain safe PrEP therapy.
Key responsibilities
- Manage financial assistance requests for PrEP participants, including submitting applications, tracking status, updating documentation, and coordinating renewals with manufacturers and assistance programs.
- Provide guidance to participants navigating manufacturer‑sponsored financial assistance, verifying benefits, resolving coverage barriers, and adjudicating pharmacy claims as needed.
- Handle inbound and outbound electronic communications, answer questions about prescription status, deliveries, refills, and medication access, and route inquiries to appropriate staff.
- Coordinate with clinical and pharmacy teams to process prescriptions efficiently, schedule medication deliveries, and obtain prior authorizations to prevent treatment interruptions.
- Monitor medication pickup and refill patterns, identify adherence gaps, and trigger navigation and retention interventions in collaboration with the pharmacy team.
- Assess clinical, social, economic, and behavioral barriers affecting access or adherence, and arrange complementary services to address identified obstacles.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all navigation activities, financial assistance actions, barriers identified, referrals made, and outcomes achieved.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience in pharmacy operations, including health‑coverage verification, claim adjudication, and coordination with eligibility and billing teams.
- Strong ability to identify and resolve barriers to medication access such as insurance issues, financial constraints, or logistical challenges.
- Knowledge of PrEP services and the importance of adherence and continuity of care.
