Pharmacy Technician – PrEP Retention Specialist

About the role

The Pharmacy Technician – PrEP Retention Specialist supports participants in accessing and maintaining pre‑exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) through a navigation model integrated with pharmacy services. Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, the role ensures continuous, safe medication use by addressing insurance, adherence, and refill barriers.

Key responsibilities

• Manage financial assistance applications for PrEP participants, track renewals, and coordinate with manufacturers.
• Handle inbound and outbound communications, answer queries about prescriptions, deliveries, and refills, and route calls to appropriate staff.
• Monitor medication pickup and refill patterns, identify adherence gaps, and trigger retention interventions.
• Assess clinical, social, economic, and behavioral barriers and coordinate complementary services to overcome them.
• Stay updated on eligibility criteria, assistance programs, and coverage processes; educate participants on adherence and follow‑up.
• Document navigation actions, barriers, referrals, and outcomes accurately and timely.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of pharmacy operations and medication access processes.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities with clinical, pharmacy, and service‑provider teams.
• Detail‑oriented with ability to maintain accurate records of interventions.
• Proactive problem‑solving mindset to resolve coverage and adherence issues.
