HR Generalist – Portugal (Lisbon)

About the role

BYD Group, a leading high‑tech multinational, is expanding its HR team in Portugal. Based in Lisbon, the HR Generalist will provide end‑to‑end HR support across the employee lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on labor relations, compliance and HR operations.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for labor‑related questions, staying up‑to‑date with Portuguese labor reforms and implementing changes.
• Prepare and draft labor documents such as work calendars, policies and contracts.
• Support business leaders on all aspects of the employment relationship, including collective bargaining, disciplinary actions, performance management, absences, flexible working, redundancies and contractual changes.
• Maintain relationships with workers’ councils and unions when required.
• Define and implement compensation and benefits policies.
• Oversee payroll processing in collaboration with an external agency.
• Ensure HR processes comply with Portuguese labor law, internal policies and GDPR, keeping accurate employee records.
• Monitor legislative changes and adapt contracts, policies and HR templates accordingly.
• Support internal and external audits and continuously improve HR procedures.
• Partner with hiring managers to define headcount needs, manage end‑to‑end recruitment, and maintain a strong talent pipeline.

Required profile

• Minimum of 5 years of employee relations experience.
• Strong knowledge of Portuguese labor legislation and GDPR requirements.
• Proven ability to advise business leaders on complex employment matters.
• Experience collaborating with external lawyers, agencies and unions.
• Demonstrated competence in talent acquisition and recruitment processes.
