Hotel Manager (M/F) - Expedition Cruise Ship

About the role

Mystic Cruises, an expedition ocean cruise line offering five-star service from Antarctica to the Arctic, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, is hiring a Hotel Manager (M/F) for its ship based in Porto. The role takes full responsibility for the Hotel Department, covering Food and Beverage, Accounting, Front Office, Tour Office, Entertainment and contracted services, and oversees daily operations, revenue and cost control.

Key responsibilities

• Run the Hotel Department and keep the Master informed of anything affecting navigation, safety or guest service quality.
• Coordinate crew matters and communicate with the ship, department heads, charter personnel and the Mystic Head Office.
• Ensure compliance with health and hygiene standards and spot-check Food and Beverage areas with the Staff Captain.
• Appraise the Technical Department on the status of hotel equipment and maintenance.
• Plan cruises, review manning levels and costs, and conduct performance appraisals of department heads.
• Monitor guest feedback, resolve complaints and ensure compliance with working hours and maritime labor conventions.
• Submit end-of-cruise reports, keep Work Registration Forms on file and act as the department's ambassador to guests and crew.
• Take part in evacuation drills and lifeboat exercises, and ensure PPE and safe lifting practices are followed.

Required profile

• College degree/diploma or hotel management school qualification.
• At least three years' experience as a Hotel Director in a luxury hotel, or three years in a senior hotel managerial position on a luxury cruise ship.
• Fluent written and spoken English and German; other languages are a plus.
• Strong communication, administrative, organizational and leadership skills, calm under pressure and diplomatic in handling corrective actions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Outlook, MXP, Word and Excel.
• Budget control and forecasting for the Hotel Department.
• Onboard accounting oversight and cash reconciliation with the Chief Purser.
