Engineering Manager

About the role

Primer is building the payments layer that the world’s leading companies rely on. As an Engineering Manager you will lead a dedicated team of engineers, own a defined area of the platform’s architecture, and ensure high‑quality delivery while maintaining system health.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers responsible for a specific software architecture area, overseeing delivery, quality, and technical direction.
• Run an effective development process, including sprint health, delivery cadence, incident response, post‑mortems, and a sustainable on‑call rotation.
• Grow engineers through regular feedback, performance conversations, and stretch assignments.
• Collaborate closely with product to scope initiatives, identify risks, and prioritize deliverables.
• Stay engaged with the team’s technical work to ask the right questions, spot risks early, and contribute to design discussions.
• Define and monitor metrics for system performance, using them to drive improvements before incidents occur.
• Handle difficult conversations around performance, interpersonal issues, or delivery risk proactively.

Required profile

• Hands‑on software engineering background with experience shipping production systems (hard requirement).
• Proven experience managing engineering teams and building effective development processes.
• Technical credibility to evaluate design decisions and challenge assumptions.
• Comfort with operational ownership, including on‑call duties, incident management, and post‑mortems.
• Clear, direct communication with stakeholders and ability to operate with autonomy.
