Engineering Manager – Europe

About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to help shape a new type of engineering team and culture at Ashby across Europe. You will lead a growing group of engineers, fostering ownership, autonomy, and hands‑on collaboration while keeping the team focused on delivering high‑impact work.

Key responsibilities

• Build and nurture a culture where engineers own product specs, make decisions, and drive projects to completion.
• Coach engineers on technical and product specifications, helping them scope work and improve quality.
• Grow engineers to handle large, loosely defined projects with minimal intervention.
• Stay hands‑on: debug customer issues, ship bug fixes, and improve developer experience.
• Lead initiatives such as improving data generation for demo accounts, impacting multiple teams.
• Manage a team of 5‑6 direct reports, providing feedback, praise, and guidance.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams, preferably with 5‑6 direct reports.
• Comfortable balancing hands‑on coding with managerial responsibilities.
• Passion for empowering engineers to take ownership and deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Strong coaching and mentorship skills.
