Tech Lead, Agent Framework - Observability

About the role

Elastic's Streams program is the unified platform for moving data into Elasticsearch from edge collection through cloud processing. The Elastic Agent and Beats handle data egress from customer infrastructure. As the Tech Lead for the Agent Framework team, you will own the architecture, set technical direction, and drive decisions for the agent layer supporting the Streams model.

Key responsibilities

• Design a scalable architecture for the agent layer, evaluate new technologies, and review existing architecture for improvements.
• Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and champion engineering best practices.
• Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and collaborate with product management to prioritize features.
• Facilitate cross‑team collaboration, organize meetings, and coordinate efforts.
• Identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and adjust project plans based on evolving priorities.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a technical lead or principal engineer on large‑scale agent/daemon or systems‑level projects, handling distributed deployments, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Deep knowledge of observability data collection (metrics, logs, traces) and protocols such as OTLP, Prometheus Remote Write, and syslog.
• Solid background in Go programming.
• Experience designing management and control planes for distributed software, especially protocol‑driven approaches like OpAMP.
• Track record of leading multi‑team technical initiatives from ambiguous design to shipped software.
• Strong written communication, producing design docs and ADRs that are trusted long‑term.
