Product Safety Engineer

About the role

Tekever is seeking a Product Safety Engineer to join its Airworthiness team in Caldas da Rainha. You will lead safety assessments and ensure that unmanned aerial systems comply with industry certification programmes and regulatory directives.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safety assessments and hazard mitigation from early design through certification.
• Act as the primary liaison between the Product Team and the Airworthiness Department.
• Perform design reviews and schematic inspections for functional safety compliance.
• Develop safety requirements and specifications for new products and features.
• Apply Airworthiness Directives and mandated tools consistently across the product lifecycle.
• Prepare safety reports, documentation, and safety cases to meet regulatory standards.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum sprint planning to embed safety thinking from day one.
• Monitor evolving UAS regulations and certification frameworks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Clear communicator able to bridge technical and regulatory teams.
• Comfortable working both independently and within a fast‑moving multidisciplinary team.
• Familiarity with safety standards and UAS regulations, even if not mastered all of them.

Required skills

• DO‑178, DO‑254, ARP‑4754, ARP‑4761, ASTM F3309M‑20, MIL‑STD‑882.
• Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
• Knowledge of EU 2019/945, EU 2019/947, SORA and Special Conditions for Light‑UAS.
• Systems engineering principles and lifecycle management.
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
