Java Software Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Java Software Engineer to join a leading insurance group’s technology team. Based in Lisbon with a hybrid work model, you will design, implement and maintain internal solutions that support the company’s digital transformation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and deploy Java‑based applications on a cloud platform.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define and prioritize requirements.
• Write high‑quality, scalable and secure code using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud and related frameworks.
• Participate in code reviews, ensure maintainability and adherence to industry standards.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and work with other engineers to resolve complex problems.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including design documents and release notes.
• Follow agile practices such as sprint planning, daily stand‑ups and retrospectives.
• Work closely with the DevOps team to guarantee smooth deployment and operation of applications.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and best‑practice standards.

Required profile

• Strong proficiency in Java (Java 17) and solid object‑oriented programming skills.
• Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud and Java EE standards.
• Hands‑on knowledge of containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Ability to debug and solve complex technical problems.
• Fluent English communication skills (mandatory).
