Senior Backend Engineer – Kotlin & AWS

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and maintain scalable, secure backend systems for a high‑scale consumer dating platform. You will work with Kotlin and AWS‑native services, owning projects from architecture through production delivery while mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain scalable, secure backend services using AWS‑native technologies.
• Drive projects end‑to‑end, managing the full software development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and fellow engineers to ship new features.
• Leverage AI‑based development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
• Participate in architecture discussions and propose long‑term technical solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers through pairing, code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to engineering standards and best‑practice documentation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience with Kotlin.
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience with AWS cloud services, deployment and monitoring.
• Proven ability to deliver production‑ready systems independently.
• Strong understanding of secure API design, distributed systems and micro‑services architecture.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform) and observability platforms (Datadog, Prometheus).
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Upper‑intermediate English proficiency.
