Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

The Senior Legal Counsel will act as a commercially‑oriented business partner for development (Dev) and independent power producer (IPP) teams, providing legal support across the full lifecycle of renewable energy projects worldwide. Reporting to the Legal Manager, the role combines contract drafting, regulatory compliance, and risk management for solar, wind, BESS and other technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Support the preparation and review of public tenders, ensuring regulatory compliance and validating binding documents such as bid bonds and consortium agreements.
• Secure real‑estate and environmental aspects of projects and draft, review, negotiate NDAs, LoIs, MoUs, EPC contracts, O&M agreements, PPAs, hedges, and other key documents.
• Advise on project financing, direct agreements, guarantees, and assist with financial close, condition‑precedent satisfaction, and waivers.
• Identify potential claims, define litigation strategies, and coordinate external law firms.
• Draft and negotiate joint‑venture documents (LoI, MoU, SHA) and support co‑development/co‑investment platforms.
• Contribute to risk assessments, prepare notes for commitment committees, management, and boards.
• Manage regulatory matters across jurisdictions, including antitrust issues, and lead modernization initiatives within the legal department.

Required profile

• Degree in Business Law (civil law and/or common law) with at least 10 years of experience in business law, preferably in energy or infrastructure projects.
• Deep knowledge of renewable‑energy projects, international tenders, commercial negotiations and project financing.
• Proven ability to handle complex negotiations, emergencies, and to lead a team in a collaborative environment.
• International experience with a commercial mindset; fluency in English required, French a plus.
