Hostel Manager

About the role

Lisbon Surf Hostel is seeking a proactive and highly organized Hostel Manager to lead daily operations and deliver an outstanding guest experience. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the hostel, from front‑desk activities to housekeeping, maintenance, and guest services, ensuring smooth check‑ins, high occupancy, and memorable stays.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily hostel operations, including check‑ins, check‑outs, room allocation and guest flow.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and maintenance standards across the property.
• Recruit, train, schedule and lead a multicultural staff team.
• Handle guest requests, complaints and special situations, monitoring online reviews and implementing improvements.
• Monitor occupancy, pricing and inventory on booking platforms, working with sales and marketing to meet revenue targets.
• Manage operational budgets, track KPIs, prepare reports and ensure legal compliance.
• Coordinate with suppliers and manage purchasing needs.

Required profile

• Previous experience in hospitality, hostel or hotel management.
• Strong leadership and people‑management abilities.
• Excellent English communication skills; additional languages a plus.
• Problem‑solving mindset, highly organized and detail‑oriented.
• Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Eligibility to work in Portugal.

Required skills

• Experience with property management system (PMS) tools.
• Familiarity with OTA platforms such as Booking.com, Hostelworld, Airbnb and Expedia.
