Transportation Manager – Foodservice Industry

About the role

The Transportation Manager leads all aspects of the transportation function within a fast‑paced, customer‑focused foodservice environment. This role oversees driver selection, routing, safety, fleet maintenance, and compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise Transportation Supervisors and driver staff, handling hiring, scheduling, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
• Manage day‑to‑day delivery operations, including expense approval, driver payroll, trip reporting, and problem resolution.
• Develop and monitor the annual transportation budget, conduct cost analyses, and prepare financial reports.
• Coordinate with the Warehouse Manager to maximize operational efficiency and route profitability.
• Plan daily truck schedules, routing, backhauls, and equipment maintenance; arrange rentals as needed.
• Ensure DOT compliance by monitoring driver logs, licenses, medical certifications, and safety records.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Logistics, or a related field is preferred.
• 4–6 years of transportation or logistics experience, including thorough knowledge of DOT regulations.
• Experience supervising unionized staff and working within collective bargaining agreements.
• Strong analytical abilities for budgeting, cost control, and route optimization.

Required skills

• Proficiency with fleet management software such as Roadnet.
• Experience using Platform Science for data entry and system monitoring.
