Senior Software Engineer - Protection

About the role

This senior backend engineering position focuses on building and scaling the core systems that power a global payment infrastructure. Based in Portugal, you will work remotely in a product‑driven environment, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑performance, secure, and reliable services.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop core backend services for distributed, high‑performance payment systems.
• Own critical architectural decisions to ensure long‑term scalability and operational excellence.
• Write clean, well‑tested, maintainable code using modern practices such as TDD and BDD.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and other teams to deliver impactful features.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and continuously improve engineering standards and workflows.
• Produce clear technical documentation to support team alignment.

Required profile

• Strong experience designing, building, and maintaining complex backend systems in distributed environments.
• Deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle, from design to production operations.
• Experience creating developer‑facing frameworks, APIs, or integration tools.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work autonomously in remote, cross‑functional teams.
• Prior exposure to payments systems or financial infrastructure is a plus.
