Project Associate – Capacity Building Initiative

About the role

The Project Associate will support the implementation, coordination and monitoring of the PONTES project, a capacity‑building initiative aimed at strengthening Portuguese institutions’ preparedness for the European Pact on Migration and Asylum.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, including data collection, analysis and reporting.
• Act as the focal point for administrative coordination, liaising with internal units, external partners and donors to obtain clearances and process requests.
• Draft status reports, correspondence, briefing notes, graphics and presentation materials, and identify delivery gaps for corrective action.
• Organise and support meetings, workshops and training sessions with local authorities, UN agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Monitor the work of implementing partners and provide guidance or training to junior staff as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, Human Rights, Public Administration or related field with at least three years of relevant experience, or a high‑school diploma with five years of experience.
• Experience liaising with governmental authorities, UN agencies and NGOs, and working with migrants, refugees or other vulnerable groups.
• Knowledge of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, the Common European Asylum System and international refugee protection.
• Strong analytical, drafting, monitoring and reporting abilities, and proficiency in Portuguese (oral and written).
