Mid-level Data Engineer – Real-time Facility Navigation

About the role
We are seeking a mid‑level Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure for a real‑time facility navigation and asset‑tracking platform used in industrial and logistics sites. The role is fully remote (Portugal‑based) and involves working on a fast‑moving, small team to ensure high‑quality, near‑real‑time data processing.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain data pipelines that ingest live positioning and telemetry data from BLE tracking hardware.
- Design data models and schemas to support real‑time event detection such as asset pickups and handoffs.
- Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting to detect pipeline failures or data drift.
- Optimize pipelines for low‑latency processing required by the product.
- Handle structured and semi‑structured data from hardware and third‑party API integrations.
- Collaborate with software engineers to ensure data accessibility and reliability.
- Support deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of data pipelines in production.
Required profile
- 2‑5 years of professional experience in Data Engineering or Software Engineering.
- Hands‑on experience building and maintaining batch or streaming ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases; experience with event or time‑series data is a plus.
- Experience integrating third‑party APIs and webhooks.
- Comfortable working with real‑time or near‑real‑time data processing requirements.
- Experience with a major cloud platform, preferably Azure.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to thrive in a small, cross‑functional team.

What we offer
- Fully remote work (Portugal‑based).
- Project duration of 19 weeks, full‑time (8 hours/day) with at least 4 hours of mandatory availability.
- Freelance / Service Agreement with an hourly rate of €31‑33.
