Legal Counsel – Data Privacy

About the role

We are seeking a Data Privacy Legal Counsel to join an international financial services organisation. The role sits at the core of product development, client relationships and market expansion, working closely with senior legal leadership to shape global privacy frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of privacy matters across the organisation and develop a consistent global approach.
• Advise on the practical impact of data protection laws as the business enters new jurisdictions.
• Collaborate with commercial and product teams on agreements involving data usage, client platforms and new services.
• Serve as a sounding board on data‑related client issues, including rights requests and regulatory obligations.
• Support the rollout of new offerings by identifying and managing privacy considerations early.
• Monitor developments in data regulation, including AI‑related privacy issues and evolving user rights.

Required profile

• 4‑10 years of experience focused on data protection or privacy.
• Background in a strong private‑practice team or a relevant in‑house setting.
• Legal qualification in Portugal.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the wider business.
• Commercial judgement and skill translating technical regulation into practical guidance.

Required skills

• Knowledge of data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).
• Experience with privacy law compliance.
• Understanding of AI‑related privacy considerations.
