IT Ops Engineer – Lisbon (Founding Role)

About the role

Discord is opening its first engineering hub outside San Francisco in Lisbon and is hiring its first IT hire in EMEA. This is a founding, highly independent senior role: you will stand up and run the full employee technology surface across EMEA, based in the Lisbon office and supporting Discordians throughout the region. You are the trusted face of IT in the region and the coverage anchor for European hours, handling what cannot wait for San Francisco to wake up.

Key responsibilities

• Establish the office's physical technology footprint, build local and regional vendor and ISP relationships, and set the day-to-day processes needed as the EMEA presence grows.
• Own end to end: identity and access, device and endpoint management, office network and connectivity, AV and meeting rooms, and SaaS, in partnership with Enterprise Security on endpoint and identity.
• Script and integrate systems using vendor-native automation and APIs, writing the glue that connects them.
• Run onboarding and offboarding so new employees are ready on day one and deprovisioned on exit.
• Act as the EMEA coverage anchor, resolving issues stalled by the timezone gap and keeping async, documented handoffs with the San Francisco team.
• Find recurring breakdowns, automate them, and measure results in time and risk saved.
• Take part in on-call rotations.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience managing IT systems in high-growth tech companies.
• Ability to operate independently through ambiguity, ideally having stood something up from scratch.
• Excellent written communication and async discipline, with a business-problem mindset and a collaborative, low-ego, secure-by-design approach.
• On-site presence 5 days a week.
