German-Speaking Receptionist (M/F) – Cruise Ship

About the role

Mystic Cruises, an expedition ocean cruise line based in Funchal, is looking for a German-speaking receptionist to serve guests on board its ships. The role covers check-in, guest information, cash handling and general front desk support, with a requirement for advanced German.

Key responsibilities

• Greet guests professionally and handle complaints and comments efficiently
• Provide information on shipboard services and ports
• Check in passengers: verify boarding documents, assign cabins, issue key cards and register credit cards
• Handle lost and found items, AVO issuance and office supply inventory
• Make wake-up calls and follow up on maintenance work orders
• Prepare birthday and anniversary lists and handle inquiries about credits and gratuities
• Assist with disembarkation, customs and immigration paperwork with the Chief Purser, and issue replacement key cards
• Complete the weekly Work Registration Form and apply charges to guest and crew accounts
• Perform additional duties in other departments such as provision and luggage when needed
• Follow safety procedures, emergency plans and lifeboat drills, and attend orientation and training with the Purser Department every cruise

Required profile

• Fluent written and spoken English; advanced German required, other languages a plus
• At least two years' experience in a luxury hotel front desk, or one year on a cruise ship with high guest contact
• Previous cash handling or accounting experience is beneficial
• Service-minded, outgoing and friendly, able to stay calm under pressure
