Job description
About the role
APEXX, a global payment orchestration platform, is looking for a Frontend Engineer to build and evolve the customer-facing surfaces of its payments platform. The role covers lightweight, embeddable JavaScript SDKs and payment components used in merchant checkout, as well as web applications that let enterprise customers configure and manage their payments. It reports to the Engineering Manager and starts remotely, with plans to move to hybrid working as the regional office opens.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain robust, lightweight JavaScript/TypeScript SDKs and payment components, paying close attention to isolation, backwards compatibility, browser behaviour, security, accessibility and performance.
- Build and evolve merchant- and internal-facing web applications, including dashboards, data visualisations and complex workflows.
- Work across the frontend/backend boundary, understanding APIs and data flows and designing Backend-for-Frontend services where appropriate.
- Use automated testing, performance optimisation, observability and debugging to deliver reliable software and resolve production issues.
- Publish client libraries with semantic versioning and backwards compatibility, and write integration guidance for merchants.
- Collaborate with Product, Design and Engineering on architecture, trade-offs and frontend practices.
Required profile
- Proven track record as a Frontend Engineer building high-performance web applications, including interfaces embedded in third-party environments.
- Deep knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, the DOM and browser APIs, beyond any single framework.
- Strong experience with modern frontend frameworks, preferably React, and component architecture, state management and data fetching.
- Ability to handle data-intensive interfaces and visualisations while keeping them responsive.
- Attention to detail, visual craftsmanship and accessibility to WCAG standards.
- Understanding of browser and web security (CORS, CSP, cross-origin behaviour) and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
Required skills
- JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, DOM and browser APIs
- Modern frontend frameworks, preferably React
- Backend-for-Frontend patterns and Node.js (great to have)
- Payments, fintech or e-commerce experience (great to have)
What we offer
- Competitive salary
- Annual leave and local public holidays
- Remote work from eligible locations for up to 90 days per year
- Learning and growth opportunities
- Local benefits package under development
