Engineer of Record / Senior Dam Safety Engineer

About the role

Boliden is seeking an Engineer of Record / Senior Dam Safety Engineer to lead the safe design, construction, operation and closure of its Somincor Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) in Portugal. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the TSFs throughout their lifecycle while supporting the company’s sustainability goals.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee engineering activities for TSFs from design through post‑closure.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).
• Document engineering decisions and manage risk assessments.
• Review and approve design and construction documentation.
• Implement and monitor effective surveillance and monitoring programmes.
• Collaborate with operations, environmental teams, senior leadership, external consultants, independent reviewers and regulatory authorities.
• Contribute to site‑wide initiatives related to safety and sustainability.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in dam safety, tailings management or related geotechnical engineering.
• Proven ability to work across the full lifecycle of large‑scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel regularly to sites and occasional visits to other Boliden locations.
