Data Scientist – AI & Machine Learning

About the role

Intermedia is seeking a Data Scientist to join its AI Data Science team in Portugal. The role focuses on developing and applying advanced machine learning, generative AI, and statistical techniques to enhance the intelligence and reliability of Intermedia’s digital agents.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and evaluate machine‑learning and generative‑AI solutions for the Digital Agent Platform.
• Apply large language models, NLP, retrieval, and RAG techniques to improve agent understanding, reasoning, and task completion.
• Experiment with model, prompt, retrieval, and agent configurations to optimize customer and business outcomes.
• Build end‑to‑end pipelines that combine LLMs with retrieval systems and enterprise knowledge sources.
• Develop rigorous evaluation frameworks, run offline and online experiments, and conduct statistical analysis to measure and improve AI performance.

Required profile

• Strong background in machine learning, generative AI, and statistical methods.
• Experience working with large language models, retrieval‑augmented generation, and natural language processing.
• Ability to design experiments, perform hypothesis testing, and translate quantitative results into actionable improvements.
• Collaborative mindset to work with AI/ML engineers, software engineers, product managers, and fellow data scientists.
