Commodity Buyer – Procurement Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a Commodity Buyer to join the purchasing team at our Viana do Castelo plant. The role focuses on sourcing and procuring series‑production components, ensuring alignment with both local plant requirements and global procurement strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate long‑term agreements for series‑production components.
• Recommend supplier process improvements based on engineering drawings and customer needs.
• Explore new technologies and implement best practices in purchasing.
• Select suppliers for existing products, adhering to automotive standards (IATF 16949, QS‑9000, AIAG, ISO 14001).
• Prepare multi‑year RFQs and evaluate part designs with engineering, quality and suppliers.
• Develop metrics to track progress against corporate goals.
• Raise change requests, tooling and production orders for purchasing projects.
• Support global corporate purchasing activities and project work as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• 3–5 years of purchasing experience, preferably with a global commodity supply base.
• Proficiency in English and Portuguese (written and spoken).
• Willingness to travel on short notice.

Required skills

• ERP experience, preferably SAP R3.
• Advanced use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
