Chief Technology Officer (CTO) – Remote, Portugal

About the role

We are seeking an experienced technology leader to serve as Chief Technology Officer for an ambitious open‑source virtual world built on decentralized technologies. The role is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere in Portugal while shaping the technical vision of a next‑generation multiplayer platform.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall technology strategy aligned with product objectives.
• Design and evolve scalable system architecture, front‑end infrastructure, and technical frameworks.
• Establish production‑ready engineering processes, including infrastructure management, security practices, and operational standards.
• Build, mentor, and grow a high‑performing engineering organization.
• Oversee engineering planning, resource allocation, and development priorities.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to iterate on product capabilities.
• Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies and implementing best practices.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews and code quality initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in game development with senior technical leadership or technology management experience.
• Proven ability to scale engineering teams and establish development processes in high‑growth or early‑stage environments.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills.
• Comfortable working in remote, globally distributed teams.
