AI Security Engineer

About the role

Amgen's Capability Center Portugal, based in Lisbon, is hiring an AI Security Engineer. This hands-on engineering role sits at the intersection of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data and biotechnology, helping build and operate the security capabilities that let Amgen teams develop and deploy AI safely at enterprise scale. You will work with AI engineers, data scientists, platform engineers, application security and cloud security teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement AI security controls for AI/ML applications, platforms, models, APIs, agents and infrastructure.
• Deploy security tooling and automation, mainly on AWS, to integrate AI security testing into engineering workflows.
• Integrate security into MLOps, LLMOps, DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines.
• Threat model AI systems and turn risks into mitigations, tests and controls.
• Secure generative and agentic AI systems, including RAG, vector databases, model endpoints and agent workflows.
• Implement controls for containerized workloads (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-based AI platforms.
• Build security controls as code with Terraform or similar IaC tools.
• Support security reviews, deploy monitoring and detection of misuse and anomalies, and share knowledge across teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity, application or cloud security.
• Fluency in English.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving AI environment.

Required skills

• Strong programming or scripting, building security tooling and automation.
• Application security fundamentals (authentication, authorization, API security, secrets management, cryptography, supply chain security).
• Cloud-native technologies, preferably AWS.
• Understanding of AI/ML systems, MLOps/LLMOps and AI security risks such as prompt injection and supply chain risks.
• Familiarity with OWASP LLM guidance, MITRE ATLAS and NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
• Highly desirable: PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, MLflow, SageMaker, and knowledge of GxP, GDPR, EU AI Act and HIPAA.
