Accountant - Portugal

About the role

Sovereign Group is looking for an Accountant for Portugal, working in an office important to the Group's profitability. You will prepare and examine financial records and reports for management and the Group, challenge them where appropriate and deliver management information to teams in a timely and proactive way, articulated locally and at Group level.

Key responsibilities

• Comply with company, local and government accounting and financial regulations.
• Enter account information into a certified program to document financial transactions.
• Analyse accounting data and prepare reports such as balance sheets and profit and loss statements for management.
• Prepare asset, liability and capital account entries, and recommend financial actions by analysing accounting options.
• Audit documents, perform audits and resolve discrepancies; carry out bank reconciliations.
• Verify documentation and request disbursements to prepare payments.
• Research and interpret accounting policy and regulations, and keep informed of current finance and accounting legislation.
• Keep financial information confidential and work with external auditors.
• Support risk analysis and compute taxes.

Required profile

• Professionally qualified accountant (CC preferred) or qualified by experience.
• Bilingual Portuguese and English.
• Excellent communicator with internal and external colleagues at all levels.
• Hard-working, efficient, resilient and motivated by results.
