Tech Lead / Team Lead Robotics Software (AMR)

About the role

A Principal Engineer role with leadership responsibility, not a traditional management position. The Tech Lead owns the software "brain" of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), designing and building systems that run in real industrial environments, combining robotics engineering (ROS, SLAM, navigation) with system architecture and technical leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve the robotics software architecture, including navigation, localization and safety
• Debug complex system issues hands-on, rather than delegating them
• Drive R&D initiatives such as map handling, odometry and multi-floor navigation
• Lead and mentor the robotics team through technical authority
• Work closely with real customer deployments in industrial environments

Required profile

• Strong robotics engineering foundation, with hands-on experience in navigation, SLAM or localization
• Track record of building production-grade systems, not just prototypes
• Comfort with real-world problems such as localization drift, sensor noise and navigation edge cases
• Architect's mindset, able to make architectural decisions and explain trade-offs
• Natural ability to lead through technical authority and to facilitate design discussions
• Active, ongoing coding in Python and C++, about 60-70% of time spent hands-on in engineering

Required skills

• ROS1 and ROS2, including ROS1 to ROS2 migration
• Navigation stack (Nav2 / move_base)
• SLAM and localization (e.g. LOAM, AMCL, LIO-SAM)
• Sensor fusion (LiDAR + IMU at minimum)
• Python (primary language) and C++ (mandatory)
• Rust (ideal, not required); Docker and containerized robotics stacks
• Linux (Ubuntu, debugging), Git workflows and CI/CD

Nice to have: experience with industrial AMRs, VDA 5050 and fleet manager integration, ISO 3691-4 safety knowledge, Gazebo / Ignition simulation, and a background in AMR/AGV companies, robotics startups or autonomous driving.
