Software Engineer – Real‑time Autonomous Retail Platform

About the role

Sensei is building the backbone of a checkout‑free retail experience powered by AI, computer vision and real‑time data processing. As a Software Engineer you will design, develop and operate the distributed, event‑driven services that make autonomous stores possible.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable micro‑services and real‑time data pipelines.
• Implement event‑driven architectures using Kafka or similar pub/sub systems.
• Build robust APIs and inter‑service communication with gRPC, RTCP and Protobuf.
• Containerize applications and manage orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) for automated testing and deployment.
• Set up logging, monitoring, alerting and observability using Datadog, Prometheus and Grafana.
• Collaborate with Computer Vision, Data Engineering and DevOps teams to integrate model inference pipelines.
• Handle camera image stream synchronization and ensure low‑latency, fault‑tolerant processing.
• Participate in code reviews, testing and performance optimisation.

Required profile

• Strong background in building distributed, event‑driven systems and micro‑services.
• Experience working with real‑time data streams and high‑throughput, low‑latency architectures.
• Proven ability to collaborate across CV/ML, data and DevOps teams.
• Commitment to writing production‑grade, observable and resilient code.
