Senior Backend Developer

About the role

Intermedia is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join its AI product engineering team. You will help build and evolve backend services that power AI‑driven experiences for Contact Center and Unified Communications products, working on real‑time data flows and integration‑heavy architectures.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable backend solutions aligned with company standards.
• Build AI‑driven backend services and APIs for Contact Center orchestration, routing, and agent assistance.
• Contribute to subsystem architecture, technical design discussions, and service design decisions.
• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, frontend, and other backend teams to define requirements and deliver robust capabilities.
• Analyze and improve system performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Write high‑quality, maintainable code following Intermedia’s engineering standards.
• Develop unit and integration tests and ensure end‑to‑end quality across services.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues in partnership with cross‑functional teams.
• Review code, mentor engineers, and raise overall engineering quality.

Required profile

• Hands‑on, product‑mindset with experience building complex backend systems.
• Comfortable with real‑time and near‑real‑time data flows and AI/ML integration.
• Ability to translate product and technical requirements into solid backend architecture.
• Strong collaboration skills with product, data science, and frontend teams.
• Willingness to work remotely with occasional visits to the office in Coimbra or Aveiro.
