Health & Safety Advisor – Data Centre Construction

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a Tier‑One contractor’s data‑centre construction team in Lisbon. This long‑term, stable position offers the chance to develop your career within a high‑value, mission‑critical programme.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary H&S point of contact for day‑to‑day site operations on an active data‑centre construction project.
• Support the Project Director in embedding a proactive safety culture across all workforce groups, including principal contractors, sub‑contractors and specialist packages.
• Conduct regular site inspections, safety walks and formal audits; identify hazards and drive corrective actions.
• Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings and inductions for new personnel, including international and Portuguese‑speaking trades.
• Maintain site H&S documentation such as method statements, risk assessments, Construction Phase Plans and CDM compliance records.
• Investigate incidents, near‑misses and unsafe acts, producing detailed reports and communicating lessons learned.
• Monitor compliance with Portuguese legislation, EU directives and client‑specific H&S requirements.
• Liaise with client H&S representatives, the Principal Designer and external regulators as required.
• Maintain KPI data and produce regular H&S performance reports for senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent; NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 strongly preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of proven H&S experience on major construction projects (civil, commercial or industrial).
• Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and practical application on live sites.
• Experience managing H&S across multi‑contractor environments with large workforces.
• EU work authorisation or existing right to work in Portugal.
