Boiler Technician

About the role

The Boiler Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and safety inspections of commercial steam and hot‑water boilers and related equipment. Reporting to the Service Manager, the role involves both independent work and collaboration on complex projects.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair commercial steam and hot‑water boilers, including controls, pumps, motors, bearings, valves, electronic controls, water/gas lines, piping, and deaerators.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals for new installations and service orders.
• Prepare detailed Service Job Reports to document work performed and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Perform preventive maintenance according to schedule and monitor system performance to identify potential issues.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, ordinances, and safety standards (OSHA, ASI).
• Assist with installations and start‑up of new boilers and burners, and maintain boiler and water‑heater controls.
• Respond to emergency service calls during and after regular hours.
• Coordinate schedules with supervisors, clients, and dispatchers to minimize downtime.
• Maintain clean, safe equipment, tools, and vehicles, and follow safe work practices.

Required profile

• High school diploma.
• Ability to lift 70 lb regularly and work at heights.
• 5–10 years of experience with boiler systems.
• Valid PR driver’s license.

Required skills

• Boiler troubleshooting and repair.
• Knowledge of boiler controls, pumps, motors, valves, and electronic control systems.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency with hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, meters).
• Preventive maintenance planning.
• Understanding of safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
