Head of Finance

About the role

This is a high‑impact, senior finance leadership role for a fast‑growing, consumer‑focused digital business based in Portugal. As the first in‑house finance leader, you will design and scale the financial backbone, turning finance into a proactive strategic partner for the executive team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead financial modeling, forecasting, scenario analysis and strategic planning, including growth projections and cash‑flow management.
• Own the budgeting process and provide clear visibility into financial trade‑offs, risks and performance drivers.
• Maintain investor‑ready financial models, reporting structures and board materials to support fundraising.
• Oversee inventory accounting, cost controls and reconciliation across revenue, expenses, cash flow and COGS.
• Strengthen visibility into profitability, margins and unit economics while ensuring timely reporting.
• Establish robust financial controls, audit‑ready processes and reliable month‑end close procedures.
• Partner with department leaders to align budgets, monitor spend and improve decision‑making.
• Develop contingency and scenario‑planning frameworks (Plan B/Plan C) for business resilience.
• Serve as the organization’s financial “source of truth,” consolidating and standardising data and reporting systems.

Required profile

• 5‑10+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, accounting or operational finance, preferably in high‑growth or startup environments.
• Strong expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting and strategic financial planning.
• Proven experience managing inventory‑heavy or product‑based financial operations.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and ERP/accounting systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks or Sage.
• Solid accounting foundation; CPA or equivalent certification is preferred.
• Ability to balance strategic advisory responsibilities with hands‑on execution.
• Systems‑thinking mindset with a focus on building scalable processes.
