Hardware Design Engineer – Smart Cloud Factory

About the role

The Smart Cloud Factory team at Volkswagen Group Services is looking for a Hardware Design Engineer to develop and validate electronic hardware for automotive control units. Based in Lisbon, you will contribute to the digital backbone that enables predictive maintenance, real‑time quality control and sustainable manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review electronic schematics and PCB layouts for automotive applications.
• Perform hardware simulations and technical analyses to verify design performance.
• Define circuit concepts for control units and support functional safety analyses, including FMEDA.
• Investigate hardware failures, conduct root‑cause analysis and propose corrective actions.
• Collaborate with customer engineering and suppliers during design reviews and ensure compliance with automotive quality standards.
• Prepare technical documentation, engineering calculations and cost estimations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering.
• Experience in hardware design for automotive or related high‑reliability domains.
• Familiarity with functional safety standards and automotive development processes.
