Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in overseeing the Engineering and Maintenance Department of a luxury resort in Condado, Puerto Rico. This role ensures that all hotel facilities operate efficiently while maintaining high standards of safety and guest satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Engineer in daily supervision of engineering and maintenance activities.
• Provide technical guidance, assign tasks, and follow up on performance of engineering staff.
• Implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs to protect assets and reduce disruptions.
• Help control departmental expenses and support budget management.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety codes and OSHA requirements.
• Supervise external contractors to guarantee quality, timeliness, and adherence to hotel standards.
• Identify and resolve technical issues affecting guest and employee areas.
• Support planning and execution of minor capital projects and facility upgrades.
• Coordinate with Housekeeping, Front Desk, Security, and Operations to minimize guest impact.
• Analyze equipment failures and recommend solutions, including parts procurement and scheduling.

Required profile

• 4 to 6 years of experience in engineering or building maintenance, preferably in hotels or service‑oriented properties.
• Proven experience supervising technical staff.
• Strong knowledge of construction and maintenance trades.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and industry standards.
