Senior Legal Counsel – Generalist (Portugal)

About the role

This senior legal position supports international expansion, complex transactions and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. The role acts as a strategic partner to senior leadership, providing end‑to‑end legal ownership rather than just advisory input.

Key responsibilities

• Lead legal support for market entry, entity structuring and regulatory approvals in various countries.
• Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including trading, technology and partnership contracts.
• Support M&A, joint ventures and investment transactions, managing due diligence from start to finish.
• Coordinate cross‑functional legal projects with compliance, finance, operations, HR and senior management.
• Monitor regulatory changes and translate them into actionable guidance for internal teams.
• Oversee licensing, regulatory obligations and ongoing compliance in regulated jurisdictions.
• Provide trusted advice on commercial, regulatory, employment and people‑related matters, engaging directly with executives when needed.
• Manage external counsel to ensure cost‑effective, high‑quality legal outcomes.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with 7+ years post‑qualification experience.
• Background in a top‑tier law firm or leading international/regional practice.
• Proven ability to handle multi‑jurisdictional matters independently.
• Strong commercial mindset aligning legal advice with business objectives.
• Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complex legal concepts.
• Highly organized, deadline‑driven and capable of managing competing priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Google Workspace.
• Experience using AI platforms such as Gemini or Claude.
