Operational Purchaser – Project Buyer (Portugal)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Operational Purchaser to join our procurement team in Portugal, supporting UK operations. You will manage end‑to‑end project purchasing, ensuring materials and services are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with company standards.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full project purchasing cycle, from sourcing and supplier selection to quotation analysis, negotiation and purchase order creation.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, project management and finance teams to align delivery schedules and budgets.
• Handle import activities, customs documentation and supplier communications for international shipments.
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, driving performance, cost optimisation and timely expediting.
• Monitor supplier delivery schedules and proactively support project timelines.
• Ensure all procurement actions comply with internal policies, contractual obligations and quality standards.
• Participate in remote project and supplier meetings, with occasional travel as needed.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience as a Project Buyer or in a similar procurement role.
• Strong background managing high‑volume purchasing across multiple categories.
• Knowledge of import processes, international shipping and customs documentation.
• Experience in engineering, manufacturing or construction‑related project procurement.
• Confident negotiator with solid commercial awareness.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while staying aligned with the UK team.
• Fluent written and verbal English communication skills.
