Operational Purchaser – Project Buyer (Portugal)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Operational Purchaser to join our procurement team in Portugal. You will support UK operations by managing project‑related purchasing activities in a collaborative, international environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end project purchasing to ensure timely delivery and budget compliance.
• Source suppliers, conduct quotation analysis, negotiate terms and issue purchase requests across multiple categories.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, project management and finance teams to align material and service delivery.
• Handle import documentation, customs requirements and maintain supplier communications.
• Build strong supplier relationships, drive performance improvements and cost optimisation.
• Monitor delivery schedules and expedite as needed to keep projects on track.
• Ensure all procurement actions comply with company policies, contracts and quality standards.
• Participate in remote project and supplier meetings, with occasional travel.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Project Buyer, Procurement or Purchasing professional.
• Strong background managing high‑volume purchasing.
• Experience supporting both project‑specific and broader business needs.
• Knowledge of import processes, international shipping and customs documentation.
• Experience in engineering, manufacturing or construction‑related procurement.
• Confident negotiator with commercial awareness and supplier management skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting while staying aligned with the UK team.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
