Marine Interdiction Agent – Federal Law Enforcement

About the role

The Marine Interdiction Agent (MIA) is a federal law‑enforcement position within U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations. Agents protect America’s borders at sea, enforce customs and immigration laws, and facilitate lawful international travel and trade.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct maritime interdiction operations to stop illegal activities on U.S. waters.
• Enforce customs, immigration, and other federal statutes aboard vessels and at ports.
• Protect national security by safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders.
• Collaborate with other federal, state, and local agencies during joint operations.
• Complete the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy (FLETC) and maintain required certifications.

Required profile

• Valid Merchant Mariner Credentials.
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility for federal employment.
• Ability to meet GS‑11 qualification standards and complete a 52‑week service commitment per grade level.
• Willingness to serve in designated new‑hire locations and fulfill a one‑year service agreement for recruitment incentives.

• Base salary ranging from $73,939 to $96,116 per year (GS‑11 level) with higher earnings possible at GS‑12/13.
