Design Engineer (Piping & 3D Modeling)

About the role

ALTEN Portugal is looking for a dedicated Design Engineer to support and review piping design projects. The role focuses on creating and reviewing technical drawings, isometrics, P&IDs and 3D models of piping systems and supports using Autodesk Inventor and Plant 3D.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review detailed isometric drawings for piping systems.
• Interpret and validate technical and assembly drawings, identifying dimensions and tolerances.
• Design and analyze Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) ensuring clear process flows.
• Create 3D models of piping systems and structural supports with Autodesk Inventor and Plant 3D, optimizing routing and performing clash detection.
• Simulate and validate designs for manufacturability and installation feasibility.
• Generate comprehensive pipe plant layouts, including equipment placement and utility networks.
• Define technical specifications in line with pharmaceutical/GMP standards and safety regulations.
• Compile Material Take‑Off (MTO) and Bill of Materials (BOM) using Inventor and Plant 3D databases.
• Maintain and update Plant 3D databases, ensuring data integrity and consistent material lists.

Required profile

• Proven experience in piping design and review.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex technical documentation.
• Familiarity with pharmaceutical or GMP environments is a plus.
