Backend Java Engineer

About the role

Join SIXT’s Lisbon tech hub as a Backend Java Engineer, helping to build a next‑generation mobility ecosystem based on cloud‑native micro‑services. You will work on scalable, event‑driven systems that power our global car‑sharing platform.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with product and business teams to translate requirements into robust software solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and keep documentation up to date.
• Design, develop, and maintain end‑to‑end distributed systems on the cloud.
• Build reusable libraries and tools for the micro‑services ecosystem.
• Implement event‑driven architectures using messaging brokers and ensure high availability.

Required profile

• Several years of experience in sophisticated technology environments, especially cloud‑native applications.
• Strong understanding of scalability challenges and event‑driven design.
• Product‑oriented mindset with attention to detail and a willingness to give and receive feedback.

Required skills

• Java programming language.
• Spring framework or comparable Java application framework.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Micro‑services architecture and distributed systems design.
• Event‑driven platforms, pub‑sub and messaging brokers (Kafka, NSQ, RabbitMQ).
