White Collar Crime & Regulatory Senior Associate

About the role

Our client, a leading international law firm, is looking for an experienced Regulatory & Compliance Lawyer to join its Lisbon office. The senior associate will advise domestic and international clients on complex regulatory, white‑collar crime and criminal compliance matters, supporting investigations and enforcement proceedings.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on regulatory and compliance issues, including risk assessment, internal controls and governance frameworks.
• Manage and support internal investigations involving fraud, corruption and regulatory breaches.
• Represent and counsel clients in white‑collar crime matters and criminal proceedings.
• Provide legal advice on administrative offence proceedings and liaise with regulatory authorities.
• Design, implement and review criminal compliance programmes, policies and procedures.
• Conduct compliance audits, gap analyses and regulatory due‑diligence exercises.
• Draft legal opinions, memoranda, internal policies and other compliance documentation.
• Collaborate with cross‑border teams on multi‑jurisdictional regulatory matters.

Required profile

• 7–10 years post‑qualification experience in a reputable law firm or in‑house legal/compliance function.
• Strong expertise in white‑collar crime, administrative offences and criminal compliance.
• Excellent technical legal skills combined with strong commercial awareness.
• Proven ability to handle sensitive investigations and high‑stakes regulatory matters.
• Strong drafting, analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Fluent in Portuguese and English (written and spoken); additional languages are a plus.
