Tax Manager – Direct Tax (Remote, Portugal)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager specialized in direct tax to join our fully remote team based in Portugal. You will lead international direct tax operations, ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions while supporting the company’s global growth strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee global direct tax compliance, preparing and filing corporate income tax, withholding tax and other direct tax returns on time.
• Coordinate with external advisors to manage documentation, reporting obligations and maintain local tax compliance.
• Identify and mitigate tax risks, implement corrective actions, and maintain strong relationships with tax authorities.
• Support tax audits, inspections and regulatory inquiries, ensuring effective communication.
• Provide strategic tax advice on cross‑border transactions, corporate structures and tax planning initiatives.
• Stay up‑to‑date with international tax legislation, treaties and regulatory developments.
• Collaborate with finance, legal, HR and other functions to ensure seamless tax reporting.
• Mentor junior tax professionals and drive process improvements through automation and AI tools.

Required profile

• Proven experience in international direct taxation within a multinational or professional services environment.
• Strong knowledge of global corporate tax regulations, tax treaties, EU directives and compliance requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Economics, Accounting, Finance or related field; Master’s in Taxation is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and lead or mentor tax teams.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Fluent English; additional languages are advantageous.
