Staff Backend Engineer (Django or FastAPI)

About the role

Altium is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to help build and evolve the cloud platform that powers its Requirements Portal. You will work on complex, cloud‑native applications that connect engineering requirements with electronic design data, delivering a seamless experience for product teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python, Django or FastAPI.
• Define and drive the technical direction of the backend architecture, ensuring robustness and performance.
• Collaborate with product and UI teams to translate feature ideas into technical solutions.
• Identify and implement simplifications and optimisations across services.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices within the team.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience building cloud‑based, microservice or event‑driven systems.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to present well‑structured solution options.
• Excellent communication in English, both written and verbal.
• Team‑player attitude with a collaborative mindset.
