Software Architect (AI Platform)

About the role

Air Apps, a family-founded company building an AI-powered Personal & Entrepreneurial Resource Planner, is hiring a Software Architect / Solutions Architect for a fully onsite position at its Lisbon office. You will define and oversee the overall system architecture of the AI platform, working with engineering teams, product managers and stakeholders to design scalable, secure and high-performing solutions, and help shape the technology strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain the overall architecture and system design for scalable, efficient software solutions.
• Provide technical leadership to engineering teams on architecture, coding and system scalability.
• Design and document high-level system diagrams, data flows and API structures.
• Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks and cloud services, and ensure high availability, fault tolerance and security.
• Oversee system integrations, including microservices, APIs and third-party services.
• Work with DevOps and SRE teams on deployment and operational reliability.
• Establish coding and architecture standards, review systems and audit performance.

Required profile

• Around 6+ years of experience in software development and architecture.
• Strong expertise in system design, cloud computing and microservices.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and cloud-native architectures.
• Ability to balance scalability, cost and complexity in architectural decisions.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Backend technologies (Node.js, Python, Java.NET) and frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Vue).
• Databases (SQL and NoSQL), caching and data pipelines.
• Event-driven architectures, API design, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Security, identity management and encryption.
• DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
